Workshops
I work with schools and community groups, delivering engaging and hands-on science workshops, creating opportunities for children to explore and develop skills.
Here is a list of my favourite workshops that I can deliver, but if there is a particular topic or theme you would like a workshop for, please get in touch and I will see what I can do to support you. I’m always happy to collaborate to make sure my workshops best suit you and your setting. Workshops can also be delivered in a series to cover a broader topic.

Feeding Frenzy
- Topic: Animals/Humans, Living Things/Habitats
- Stage: KS1, Early Years
Why do birds have different shaped beaks? In this activity, children will investigate how birds have adapted their beaks over time to eat their favourite food in their habitat.
Play Dough Circuits
- Topic: Electricity
- Stage: KS2, Community Events
Students will reinforce their understanding of circuits. They will test alternative materials for their conductivity and use as a wire in a circuit. Conductive and insulating play dough can also stand in place of wires and introduce resistance and short circuiting.
Marble Rollercoaster
- Topic: Materials
- Stage: KS1, Community Events
In this hands-on making workshop, children will work together in teams to build their own marble runs using a variety of materials.
Germ Busters
- Topic: Animals/Humans
- Stage: KS1
In a whole class experiment, we will explore the most effective method for washing our hands. We will learn about microbes and find out why it is important not to spread microbes between our classmates.
Particle Problem
- Topic: Materials
- Stage: KS2
What happens to wastewater after it is washed away? Students will test out a range of materials to create a water filter. We will investigate particle size and discuss the effect plastic pollution is having on our oceans.
Plant Detectives
- Topic: Plants
- Stage: KS1, Community Events
In this workshop, we will explore what plants need to grow and the amazing structures inside them. Children will investigate the key parts of seeds, plants and flowers under the microscope. We will set up a whole class seed germination experiment to find out the best conditions for plants to grow, which can be reviewed over the next few weeks.
Eclipses and Transits
- Topic: Space
- Stage: KS2
How is an eclipse created? In this activity, students will try to recreate the four different kinds of eclipse, investigating the relative sizes and distances of the sun and moon.
Material Matters
- Topic: Materials, Forces
- Stage: KS2
This project investigates the different properties of materials, why it is important to recycle, including the effect that plastic pollution is having on the environment, and the process of separating materials at a recycling plant.
Exploring Sound
- Topic: Sound
- Stage: KS1, Community Events
Children and families can choose to make a cup phone, shaker and harmonica (or make all 3 of course!). We will explore how sound works, how sound likes to travel best and changing the pitch of sounds.
Busy Bees
- Topic: Living Things/Habitats
- Stage: Early Years
Bees are really important in our lives – they pollinate flowers and plants. In this activity, children will explore what a working day in the life of a bee is like.
Toothpaste Engineering
- Topic: Animals/Humans
- Stage: KS1, KS2
Did you know the secret behind the perfect toothpaste lies in chemical engineering? In this workshop, students will create and test their own toothpaste recipes, whilst learning about teeth and why it is important to brush them.
Lunar Footprints
- Topic: Space
- Stage: Early Years
Is the surface of the moon dry or wet, rocky or smooth? In this workshop, children will recreate footprints on the moon to discover what the surface of the moon could be like.
Gut Explorers
- Topic: Animals/Humans
- Stage: KS2
This activity will discuss food groups and how your body processes food. Students will have a go at modelling the digestive system in a messy and disgustingly fun activity to discover the crucial roles of our guts.
Earth’s Protective Coat
- Topic: Light
- Stage: KS2
The Earth’s atmosphere protects the planet from a lot of the UV light that comes from the sun, but what about astronauts who travel beyond the ozone layer? Our mission today is to explore materials that could be used in a spacesuit to protect astronauts from UV.
Rocks
- Topic: Rocks
- Stage: KS2, Community Events
Students will discover how fossils are formed, allowing us to find out about the dinosaurs that lived such a long time ago. We will consider how different types of rock are suitable for making fossils, experimenting with making dinosaur footprints in different rocks, as well as the classic rock identification experiments.
